Tangled Bank Studios Wins Emmy For Your Inner Fish

New York, NY, September 28, 2015 --Tangled Bank Studios won its first Emmy award, honoring the 2014 three-part PBS series Your Inner Fish. The show won in the Outstanding Graphic Design & Art Direction category in the 37th News & Documentary Emmy Awards competition. The ceremony took place Monday, September 28 at Lincoln Center’s Geffen Hall in New York City.

Your Inner Fish was a 2014 television series based on the best-selling book by leading paleontologist and evolutionary biologist Neil Shubin, a professor at the University of Chicago. In taking viewers on a cutting-edge, scientific adventure, Your Inner Fish reveals a startling truth: hidden within the human body is a history of life on Earth. Tangled Bank Studios produced the film, which starred Shubin. Your Inner Fish was created in collaboration with award-winning producer David Dugan, founder of the U.K.-based production company Windfall Films. Jellyfish Pictures created the visual effects for the series.

“When we launched Tangled Bank Studios in 2012, we vowed to make science as compelling as action films, dramatic cinema, and all the other stories that people love,” says Sean B. Carroll, vice president for science education at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, which founded the independent film studio. “We’re thrilled that viewers so enjoyed Your Inner Fish, and we’re honored to receive this award.”

Headquartered in Chevy Chase, MD, Tangled Bank Studios is a production company established and funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute as an extension of its longstanding science education mission. Dedicated to the creation of original science documentaries for broadcast, theatrical and digital distribution, the company aims to produce programs that capture compelling stories of discovery across all branches of scientific inquiry. Learn more at
