“THE BIG FISH INITIATIVE” IMPACT CAMPAIGN WINS 2024 ANTHEM MEDIA IMPACT AWARD AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AWARD
Campaign centerpiece is science-focused HHMI Tangled Bank Studios’ Nature/PBS Documentary TREASURE OF THE CARIBBEAN
CHEVY CHASE, Md., November 19, 2024 - Oscar®-nominated and Emmy®-winning HHMI Tangled Bank Studios is proud to announce The Big Fish Initiative, an impact campaign in partnership with FAO’s Spawning Aggregation Working Group (FSA), has won silver for both Media Impact and Community Engagement for a Sustainability, Environment & Climate Cause at the 2024 Anthem Awards.
Celebrating purpose and mission-driven work, the Anthem Awards honored The Big Fish Initiative for work protecting and securing the next generation of Caribbean marine life. NATURE: TREASURE OF THE CARIBBEAN, which premiered on PBS Nature in April 2023, is the film companion to the project. The film explores the Cayman Crown, a coral reef rich with life but threatened by the world’s warming oceans.
“This project brought together a diverse group of people from all over the world: filmmakers, scientists, and the fishing communities,” said Ana Salceda, director and producer. “Over the five years it took us to make the film, the team surmounted all kinds of challenges, from storms to bleaching events and even a global pandemic. Not only did we produce this beautiful film, but we also got the reef protected in the process. What’s really important to me is that this project has become a beacon of hope for the entire region, showcasing the enormous power of nature films to make a difference on the ground.”
NATURE: TREASURE OF THE CARIBBEAN is a production of The WNET Group, Terra Mater Studios, BelugaSmile Productions and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios in co-production with Doclights/NDR Naturfilm. The documentary was produced and directed by Ana Salceda and edited by Mark Fletcher. For HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, John Rubin and Sean B. Carroll are Executive Producers. For Terra Mater Studios, Ivo Filatsch and Sabine Holzer are Executive Producers. For Nature, Fred Kaufman is Executive Producer. Bill Murphy is Series Producer and Janet Hess is Series Editor.
